Colombo (News 1st); Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa visited MP Harin Fernando in the hospital to inquire into his well-being.
MP Harin Fernando was instructed on Thursday (22) to appear at the CID to provide a statement with respect to the investigations currently underway over the 21st April 2019 Attacks. "MP Fernando revealed certain facts in Parliament recently, especially facts that were unknown until now," said the Opposition Leader on Friday (23) adding these facts were revealed to ensure justice is served to the victims of the 2019 Terror Attacks as well as to those who were affected. There is an attempt to arrest MP Harin Fernando under the provisions of the Preventional Of Terrorism Act to silence him, alleged Sajith Premadasa adding there is no authority in Sri Lanka that is enabled to question an MP concerning a statement made in Parliament. "If Harin Fernando is to be arrested, we will go along with him," stressed Sajith Premadasa adding the Opposition will stand together with MP Fernando. MP Manusha Nanayakkara said the government is hunting down the messenger (Harin Fernando) rather than pursuing after the perpetrators. "MP Fernando did not carry out the attacks. Therefore, the government must arrest those responsible for the attacks," he said while condemning the efforts taken to arrest an MP without having any understanding over the Parliament (Powers and Privileges) Act.
