Colombo (News 1st); 272 COVID-19 cases were reported from Sri Lanka on Friday (26), said the Department of Government Information, adding 260 of these cases were from the Peliyagoda Cluster and the other 12 were those who returned from overseas.
A majority of Friday's COVID-19 infections were from the Colombo District, which 55 cases increasing the total number of cases reported from the 04th of October 2020 in the district to 31,188.
40 COVID-19 infections were reported from the Gampaha District and 28 infections were reported from the Jaffna District on Friday (26), said the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).

Of the cases reported from the Colombo District, 13 COVID-19 infections were reported from Mirihana while the other cases were from Fort, Wellawatte, Avissawella, Boralesgamuwa, Dehiwala, Homagama, Kahatuduwa, Kosgama, Kotahena, Maharagama, Meegoda, Mount Lavinia, Mulleriyawa, Nawagamuwa and Wellampitiya.
The Director General of Health Services confirmed one death caused by Covid-19 virus infection on Friday (26), said the Department of Government Information.
Accordingly, the total number of deaths due to Covid-19 infection in Sri Lanka is 558.
The deceased is a 70 year old male resident from Mathugama. He was diagnosed as infected with Covid 19 virus while undergoing treatments at District Hospital Kaluthara and transferred to Base Hospital Homagama where he died on 25.03.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as Myocardial infarction and COVID Pneumonia.
