Foreign Ministers UNHRC vote theory ridiculed

Colombo (News 1st); On Tuesday (24), Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said the crucial point at the vote on the resolution against Sri Lanka was that those who moved it could not secure a majority vote.

"The UN Core Group failed to secure 25 votes from the 47 member UNHRC," said the Foreign Minister. However, opposing factions have ridiculed the Foreign Ministers' calculation method, adding if abstentions are considered as those who support Sri Lanka at the UNHRC, every election result should also be viewed in that manner. "At the Presidential Election there are 16.2 million voters and Gotabaya Rajapaksa secured 6.9 million votes. Therefore if we apply Dinesh Gunwardenas' theory, Gotabaya Rajapaksa lost by 9.5 million votes," said Former JVP Parliamentarian Bimal Ratnayake.
