SI killed in early morning HIT & RUN in Welikada

Colombo (News 1st); Two people including a Police Sub-Inspector were killed in a hit and run involving a van in Welikada on Tuesday (23) morning, said Sri Lanka Police.

Deputy Police Chief Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said a 52-year-old Sub Inspector attached to the 1-1-9 Emergency Division was killed in the accident. The Police Spokesperson said the Sub-Inspector and fellow officers had parked their 1-1-9 Emergency Radio Car and carried out inspections on vehicles traveling towards Colombo. When they were inspecting a small-sized lorry a van from Battaramulla to Borella had run them over, he said adding the other person killed in the incident was the assistant operating the lorry. The driver of the van was arrested by the Welikada Police, he said.
