Colombo (News 1st); JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake has fired back at Public Security Minister Rear Admiral (Retd) Dr. Sarath Weerasekara for his recent comments on linking the father of the Ibrahim brothers with the JVP.

On Thursday (18), the Minister said the Ibrahim brothers who carried out the two deadliest suicide attacks in 2019 and their father had given Rs. 30 million to Zaharan Hashim for the attacks. "Ibrahim was included in the JVP national list, therefore Anura Kumara Dissanayake will have to give an explanation shortly," said the Minister adding one must not be misled by Dissanayake's void statements. "When issues arise, Sarath Weerasekera spreads a premeditated story to divert attention away from the issue," said the JVP leader fired back adding, whenever Weerasekera makes a comment the government does a U-turn on what he says. Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the government is planning on calling for Provincial Council elections, at a time when Sarath Weerasekera had made a public statement to abolish the Provincial Councils. The JVP leader added, when Sarath Weerasekera warned the underworld to surrender all weapons, none did so and therefore it is the Minister of Public Security who is making void statements. "The same happened when he (Sarath Weerasekara) said military training will be given to the youth. The government said it made no such decision," said Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The JVP leader said the Minister is making baseless statements, yet they can be termed as a threat. Former JVP politician Bimal Ratnayake in response to the Public Security Minister said a statement should be recorded from Mahinda Rajapaksa on how payments were made to Zaharan and 20 others, before making allegations at the JVP. "Present Ministers and Ex-Minister have given accolades to Ibrahim and also appointed his as a Justice of the Peace for the entire country, " said Ratnayake.
