Police jeep hits a three-wheeler; 2 dead, 3 injured

COLOMBO (News1st): "Two people were killed while three others were injured when a police jeep collided with a three-wheeler in Katumuluwa Katupotha this morning", Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said. The accident occurred at the 10th-mile post along the Wariyapola-Kalugamuwa road at 8 am. "The 48-year-old three-wheel driver and his 69-year-old mother were killed in the accident", DIG Ajith Rohana said. The wife and two children of the three-wheeler driver who were injured were admitted to the Kurunegala Hospital. A special team led by the Senior Superintendent of the Police Office of Kuliyapitiya is conducting investigations on this incident. The Police constable who drove the jeep attached to Kathupotha Police Station was arrested by the Special team. "Sri Lanka Police will press charges against the constable in terms of the provisions of the criminal procedure code and he would be produced before the Magistrate's Court", DIG Ajith Rohana said. Further investigations are currently underway.
