Colombo (News 1st); The Cabinet of Ministers granted their approval to provide relief for electricity consumers affected by COVID-19.
Accordingly, the cabinet approved the provision of a 06 month grace period from the date of the bill and avoid interruption of the electricity connection for domestic, commercial, and industrial electricity consumers within areas isolated for more than 14 days continuously in order to settle the electricity bill pertaining to the specific period. Further, the cabinet approved the provision of an opportunity to settle electricity bills from the month of March to December 2020 of movie theatres registered under the National Film Corporation in 12 equal installments from the date of the relevant bill and avoid interruption of the electricity connection until such time. In addition, the cabinet also approved the provision to settle electricity bills and water bills from 01st of March 2020 to 28th February 2021 of inns registered under the Sri Lanka Tourist Development Authority and also avoid interruption of both supplies.
