COLOMBO (News 1st):
Chief Organizer of the Opposition Lakshman Kiriella submitted a letter to the Speaker today, requesting the chance to present facts on MP Ranjan Ramanayake's ability to continue to occupy his seat in Parliament.
The letter elaborates that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya is of the view that MP Ranjan Ramanayake should be given the same opportunity as MP Primalal Jayasekara was given to enter Parliament.
In a statement, Kiriella adds that Ramanayake would lose his seat in six months, according to the Elections Commissioner. It further read that the court was of the view that the Speaker should take a decision on the request made by Mr. Premalal Jayasekara, adding that Ramanayake should be given the opportunity to participate in the parliamentary session, in line with that decision.
Kiriella has requested that the Speaker provide an opportunity for the Opposition to express their views in Parliament tomorrow, and the Speaker has duly agreed to grant that opportunity.
