Colombo (News 1st); An agriculture development officer was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment after he was found guilty on 04 counts including soliciting a bribe of Rs. 30,000/- from an agrarian organization.
The officer was attached to the Nochchiyagama Ranorawa Agrarian Service Center and the sentence was delivered by Colombo High Court Judge Adithya Patabandige.
In addition, the accused was ordered to pay a fine of Rs. 20,000/- and was ordered to repay the solicited Rs. 30,000/- as a punishment.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery Commission arrested the accused on the 12th of January 2016 when he solicited the bribe in order to recommend a cheque issued for the Vimukthi Agrarian Organization, to be converted to cash.
