Colombo (News 1st); The Criminal Investigations Department arrested 07 people for assisting Ex-Minister Rishad Bathiudeen to evade arrest, said Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana on Monday (19).
The Ex-Minister was arrested by personnel from the CID early Monday (19) morning.
The Police Spokesperson said the Ex-Minister will be produced at the Fort Magistrate's Court after recording a statement.
Among the other arrested suspects are 02 females, including a lady doctor, said DIG Ajith Rohana and all suspects will be charged with harboring a suspect and will be produced in court.
The Police Spokesperson said there are several other suspects connected to harboring Rishad Bathiudeen as well for aiding and abetting in the process, and they would be arrested and produced in a court of law.
The Ex-Minister is charged with Criminal Misappropriation of Public Funds and Violation of Election Laws with regard to the Transportation of IDPs in CTB buses to vote at the 2019 Presidential Election.
