Colombo (News 1st); Sri Lankans who were unable to return the country and remain stranded overseas will be repatriated from next week, said the Foreign Ministry on Saturday (17).
At present the repatriation process of Sri Lankans remains suspended due to the growing number of COVID-19 cases in the country.
The Foreign Ministry said, however, cargo planes which are scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka are also used to accommodate those who wish to be repatriated.
A source from the Foreign Ministry said people suffering from various illnesses would also be repatriated.
He added the cargo planes which arrive in Sri Lanka travel to 19 Cities across 10 countries.
54,000 Sri Lankans are to be repatriated to the island and 43,000 people from 122 countries were repatriated to Sri Lanka.
