Colombo (News 1st); The presidential commission probing the April 21st attacks today heard that former SIS director Nilantha Jayawardena had informed a team of Pakistani envoys there was no Islamist extremism, days before the bombings.
This was revealed during a testimony given by former Director-General of the Institute of National Security Studies of Sri Lanka Asanga Abeygoonasekara yesterday.
The witness told the commission that, in 2017, he had sent three reports to the then Chief of National Intelligence Sisira Mendis informing him that Islamist extremism was becoming a regional menace.
He, however, added that those reports had not reached the then President Maithripala Sirisena at that time.
