Another Leopard killed; 03 people arrested for attempting to sell Leopard meat

Colombo (News 1st); Three people including a woman were arrested in Ududumbara, Kandy for killing a leopard and attempting to sell its meat.

Sri Lanka Police said the trio was arrested along with a three-wheeler following an investigation.

Preliminary Police investigations revealed the leopard was trapped in a snare set-up for pigs and the two male suspects had killed the leopard and prepared its meat for sale and the woman was arrested for assisting them in this criminal act.

Sri Lanka Police said the incident had taken place on the 08th of September and the leopard was skinned at night and the meat was packed in two bags.

Among the arrested are a married couple from Kalaligamuwa and the other suspect is from Werapitiya, said Sri Lanka Police.

Police in its investigation discovered the leopard meat and parts of its body at the residence of the suspects and are conducting further investigations to locate the missing body parts.

The suspects will be produced at the Theldeniya Court and further investigations are carried out under the direct supervision of SSP Jagath Seram, who is in charge of the Theldeniya Division.
