Patali & others charged with 16 indictments

Rajagiriya accident case against Patali Champika & 02 others postponed to September

Colombo (News 1st); The case filed by the Attorney General against Ex-Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, ASP Sudath Asmadala & the Ex-Minister's driver Thusitha Dilum Kumara, who are charged under 16 separate indictments for causing grievous injury to a person by rash & negligent driving, for conspiring & fabricating false evidence as well as giving false information to screen an offender was postponed to the 17th of September.

The case was called up in the presence of Colombo High Court Judge Gihan Kulatunga and all three defendants were present in court on Friday (28).

Attorney General Dappula De Livera on the 10th of July 2020 had filed an indictment with the Colombo High Court against Ex-Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka for causing grievous injury to a person by rash & negligent driving on the 28th of February 2016.

The Attorney General had also filed a second Indictment with the Colombo High Court against former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, ASP Sudath Asmadala & Dilum Thusitha Kumara for Conspiring & fabricating false evidence as well as giving false information to screen an offender.

The second indictment contains 16 charges and the main charge is relating to conspiring and fabricating false evidence to claim it was Dilum Thusitha Kumara who was driving the vehicle which caused an accident.
