COLOMBO (News 1st): The construction of tunnel for a rainwater management project in Colombo ended on Friday, officials said.
The project worth USD 321 million is being carried out by the Urban Development Authority and the Ministry of Housing.
The tunnel has been constructed to allow rainwater to flow into the sea near the Mattakuliya Fisheries Harbour.
"These investments are needed more than ever as the world faces the consequences of climate change," Andrew Woodland, a world bank official said.
The Acting Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, World Bank representatives, and state minister Dr. Nalaka Godahewa were present during the occasion.
Urban development state minister Dr. Nalaka Godahewa observed that economic growth and development had slowed down in the past.
"We went through a bad patch. But there is no point harping over those things anymore," he added.
