President calls for temporary suspension of road construction work in Sinharaja; RDA

Colombo (News 1st); President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has instructed for the temporary suspension of road development work taking place near the Sinharaja Forest and World Heritage Site, said the Road Development Authority.
RDA Chairman Chaminda Athuluwage speaking to News 1st said if there is an issue with regard to the project in question, the matter will be subject to a review and necessary action will be taken.
Road construction work to expand the road bordering the Sinharaja Forest and World Heritage site commenced in the first week of August.
An 08 feet wide concrete road currently exists and the Forest Conservation Department said the road will be expanded to a 12 feet wide road with the involvement of the Sri Lanka Army and the Road Development Authority.
