Ex-PM, Ministers & MPs noticed by PCoI

Ranil, Mangala, Malik & several others noticed by PCoI to appear on 21st August

Colombo (News 1st);  Ex-Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Ex-Ministers Mangala Samaraweera, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, and Malik Samarawickrama were issued notice to appear at the Presidential Commission of Inquiry probing incidents of political victimization on the 21st of August.

In addition, TNA Leader R. Sampanthan, Ex-MPs M. A. Sumanthiran, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Attorney-at-Law J. C. Weliamuna and (Dr.) Jayampathy Wickramaratne were also issued notice to appear at the Presidential Commission on the 21st of August.

Notice was issued based on a complaint filed by Dr. Nihal Jayathilaka, the Former Secretary to the Ministry of Economic Development.

In the complaint, Dr. Nihal Jayathilaka said he was arrested and remanded for providing compensation and gratuity to employees who volunteered to terminate their services when Divi-Neguma was converted into a department and for providing concessions under the "Isurumath" housing program.

Dr. Nihal Jayathilaka claims his arrest was politically motivated.

Counsel Senarath Jayasundara appearing for Dr. Nihal Jayathilaka requested the Presidential Commission to name as respondents, Former DIG of the Criminal Investigations Department Ravi Vaidyalankara, Former Director-General of the Divi Neguma Department N. K. Ananda Wijepala, the SP Serasinghe from the Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division among others.

Counsel Senarath Jayasundara further requested for the Former Magistrate of Kaduwela Dhammika Hemapala to be named as a witness in the matter.

PCoI Chairman Upali Abeyratne, retired Supreme Court Judge, after considering the facts presented decided to issue notice on the individuals mentioned at the outset to appear at the commission on the 

21st of August.
