Agreement on private sector employees’ salary extended till September

Colombo (News 1st); The Cabinet of Ministers have proposed for private sector companies impacted by COVID-19 to pay their staff 05% of their basic salary or Rs.14,500/- whichever is higher until the month of September.

Joint Cabinet Spokesperson Minister (Dr.) Bandula Gunawardena speaking to reporters on Thursday said an agreement in this regard was reached earlier between the employers, employee trade unions, and the Ministry of Skills Development, Employment & Labour Relations.

He said this agreement was reached as there had been a requirement for employees to stay back at their homes for having no work for the two (02) months namely May and June 2020.
