COLOMBO (News 1st): The inspections of the amounts and quality of narcotic stocks at storage facilities of the Police Narcotics Bureau have commenced, with the assistance of the Government Analyst Department, according to Sri Lanka Police. "This measure was taken to determine whether certain officers at the Police Narcotics Bureau had released the narcotics to smugglers upon being seized," Police Spokesperson SSP Jaliya Senaratne said on Wednesday (July 8). The Criminal Investigation Department will produce in court today, 11 PNB officers who remain in its custody over issues at the Police Narcotics Bureau. A civilian who was also arrested in connection to the case will be produced in court today. According to Sri Lanka Police, the suspects are being interrogated under detention orders. SSP Jaliya Senaratne further said IP Saman Wasantha Kumara of the Police Narcotics Bureau, who surrendered to Kadawatha Police on Tuesday (July 7), was handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department. He is also being interrogated under detention orders, according to SSP Senaratne.
