COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka Police have arrested 98 people over violations of election laws, according to Police headquarters. "Two candidates and 96 supporters were arrested over the violation of election laws; 24 vehicles were seized," SSP Jaliya Senaratne, the Police Spokesperson said on Friday (July 3). According to SSP Jaliya Senaratne, 18 complaints were received over offences related to the election and 56 complaints were received over the violation of election laws. "Under the 1981 Parliamentary Election Act No. 01, Sri Lanka Police is legally authorized to remove any form of election promotions of the name and number of candidates," Mahinda Deshapriya - Chairman of the National Elections Commission, noted.
