Karuna Amman must be tried for war crimes : Meddegoda PC

COLOMBO (News1st) : Karuna Amman, an LTTE renegade leader turned politician must be tried for war crimes, a former trial attorney at the Hague's International Criminal Tribunal has said. The government must complain to the Hague’s UN tribunal for his crimes committed against humanity, Anura Meddegoda, a President's Counsel had told the Daily Mirror newspaper. Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan, popularly known as Karuna Amman, had recently admitted that he had murdered thousands of Sri Lankan army personnel in a single night, when he was in the LTTE. Meddegoda pointed out that Karuna Amman faces several allegations of having committed war crimes and crimes against humanity. "...it is imperative that the law enforcement authorities conduct an investigation into that statement," the senior lawyer had told the newspaper.
