19 head jailers from major prisons transferred with immediate effect

Acting Commissioner General of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya said this move was taken as part of a program to crack down on various illegal activity taking place inside prisons.

A Prison Officer attached to the Boossa Prison was interdicted and handed over to the police after he made an attempt to assist in providing heroin to an incarcerated inmate.

Acting Commissioner General of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya said the officer was nabbed following an inquiry led by the Boossa Prison Superintendent.

The Department of Prisons launched a separate investigation into the incident.
