Inter-Provincial bus services resume operations on 26th May

COLOMBO (News 1st): Inter-Provincial bus services will resume on Tuesday 26th May, according to the Ministry of Passenger Transport Management. However, Inter-Provincial bus services will not apply to Colombo & Gampaha Districts. Accordingly, Sri Lanka Transport Board and the National Transport Commission will commence inter-provincial bus services in compliance to health instructions issued by health authorities. Under the resumption of services, buses will operate via 5 main roads; however, will not reach up to Colombo. Inter-provincial buses operating along the Colombo-Kandy main road will travel only up to Nittambuwa. Along the Colombo 05 main road, buses will operate up to Minuwangoda. The Inter-provincial buses operating along Galle road will travel up to Panadura. The Inter-provincial buses travelling along both High-Level road and Low-Level road via Avissawella will only operate up to Avissawella. The Inter-provincial buses travelling towards Colombo along the Anuradhapura - Puttalam and Kuliyapitiya - Negombo roads will only operate up to Negombo. Along the Southern Expressway, the operation of buses from Hambantota will conclude at Kottawa. Operation of Inter-provincial buses will begin at 4:30 am and conclude at 6:00 pm. According to the Ministry of Passenger Transport Management, passengers travelling via inter-provincial bus services should only be charged up to the revised destinations. Based on instructions issued by health authorities, the destination of the buses should be displayed in the front and all passengers are required to wear face masks when travelling. The Ministry further noted, the validity of all bus licenses was extended till the 30th of June. SLTB buses will also operate in line with the earlier mentioned regulations, according to Chairman of the Sri Lanka Transport Board.
