Colombo (News 1st): The Deputy Police Chief in-charge of the Kalutara Range is leading an investigation over the alleged abduction and torture of a 21-year-old man from Mathugama.
The allegations are made against personnel attached to the Crimes Investigations Unit of the Katukurunga Police Division.
The alleged torture victim, a welder by profession claims he was taken away by two men while he was repairing a vehicle close to his residence.
He said the men took him to an area know as 'Ella Pahala" to inquire about a weapon and he was inhumanely beaten under an over-pass by the unknown men and then the beating was repeated when he was taken away to the Crimes Investigations Unit of the Katukurunga Police Division.
The alleged victim claims an officer living in the same area was responsible for orchestrating the attack.
He says he was taken away at 05 in the evening and beaten past 11 at night and had to remain in the hospital for almost three days due to his injuries.
The victim's father had already filed a complaint with the DIG in charge of the Kalutara Range and the Human Rights Commission over the incident.
