Sri Lanka's COVID-19 toll soars past 1000

COLOMBO (News1st): The number of coronavirus patients in Sri Lanka soared past 1000 since the outbreak in the country on March 11, official figures showed. Twenty nine people had tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, among which 28 were Navy personnel, as the total number of patients rose up to 1021, according to health ministry statistics. The infected navy personnel had been undergoing quarantine in Oluvil. According to the health ministry, 569 people have recovered from the virus while 442 people are currently being treated at state hospitals. Ten people had recovered from the virus on Tuesday. Nine people have died due to the coronavirus in the country.
