COLOMBO (News1st): Sri Lanka's constitutional council (CC) has said it would fill vacancies in the Office for Reparations during its next meeting, to ensure effective operations.
The council, which met on Thursday, had also discussed a letter sent by the national election commission directing the police commission to transfer police officers during the election period with the approval of the polls body.
"A decision was made to bring this matter before the attention of the police commission," the parliament's department of communication said in a statement.
The CC had been set-up under the 19th amendment in 2015 and is responsible for appointing members to the independent commissions in the country.
The council convened a meeting at the Speaker's official residence chaired by former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, with the attendance of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, former opposition leader Sajith Premadasa, and other members of the body.
