COLOMBO (News1st): The United Nation's (UN) Resident Coordinator to Sri Lanka has urged for a relentless fight against terrorism, in a message issued to commemorate last year's April 21st attacks in the south asian island.
"Terrorism should not be associated with any religion, ethnicity, or race," Hanaa Singer said, as the country mourned the loss of those who lost their lives in a coordinated series of bombings on Easter Sunday.
The resident coordinator noted that the entire world was shocked by the tragedy and saddened by the intercommunal tensions that followed days after the carnage.
Singer observed that terrorism is a virus that divides society and creates fear among one another.
"But there is a vaccine; respect for rights, dialogue, and the rule of law," she said adding that dialogue and diversity are key resources for achieving inclusive and sustainable societies.
As families mourned their loved ones amidst a curfew that has silenced the country, Singer called solidarity and partnership to protect the health of every citizen from the coronavirus.
