COLOMBO (News1st): The Head Office of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya was closed down today, as the party suspended all political activities, owing to the ongoing health crisis in the country.
"We would not hold any more media briefings either. This media briefing would be the last one, until further notice," Samagi Jana Balawegaya Leader Sajith Premadasa told reporters today (March 20).
Premadasa pointed out that Singapore had been able to successfully curb the spread of COVID - 19, as they took immediate action against the virus.
"We must strengthen the quarantine process in the country, and enforce more rules and regulations. Medical check-ups for Covid 19 should also be made available in more hospitals," he highlighted.
The former Opposition Leader recalled that when he proposed the importation of face masks, in Parliament, when the virus was first reported, the government had maintained their stance of conducting the election.
"The government failed to make this decision, However, I thank the National Election Commission, for having the backbone to take this decision," Premadasa noted.
He urged the government to refrain from "gambling" with the lives of the people.
