Illicit liquor brewery busted in forest-area near parliament

Colombo (News 1st): Officers of the Excise Unit of Colombo have been able to apprehend four persons who had been engaged in the illicit liquor business in the jungle area of Diyawanna Oya near Parliament. Excise officials said the racket had been carried out for 18 years. 413 liters of illicit liquor, 2400 liters of goda and six gas cylinders were seized during the raid. Excise officials stated that the market value of the liquor was over Rs. 600,000. Officials said that the main suspect involved in the racket had fled the area. They added that the suspect had previously been imprisoned for various crimes.
