Colombo (News 1st) - The 72nd independence day of Sri Lanka was a good day for 244 members of the Sri Lanka Army as President Gotabaya Rajapaksa granted promotions to a total of 244 officers.
In line with the independence celebrations, President Rajapaksa as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces promoted 7 Brigadiers to the Rank of Major General, 45 Lieutenant Colonels to the Rank of Colonel, 49 Majors to the Rank of Lieutenant Colonel, 42 Captains to the Rank of Major, 80 Lieutenants to the Rank of Captain and 11 2nd Lieutenants to the Rank of Lieutenant.
A release issued by the Army media unit noted that Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army extended his best wishes to the newly-promoted Officers and expressed the Army's gratitude to the President and the Ministry of Defence.
