Miners hunger strike intensifies ; Protest now staged 1800 feet underground

Colombo (News 1st) - Ministers of the Kahatagaha mine, who are engaging in a fast onto death, descended further into the mine today (Jan 23). The fast entered it's third day today. The miners assembled on Tuesday (Jan 21) to discuss their wages and other issues, they launched the fast as they did not receive a proper solution to their issues. The miners staged their protest 1,132 feet underground, however, last night the protestors descended to 1800 feet. A number of protestors were invited to attend a meeting today at the Kurunegala District Labor Office with the District Labor Commissioner in order to resolve their issues.
