Colombo (News 1st) - JVP Politburo member Wasantha Samarasinghe convened a media briefing in Anuradhapura today to draw attention to issues being faced by the general public.
Addressing the media Samarasinghe noted that it would be easy to see what is going on in the country if you take a moment to analyze all the scripted drama, recordings and other reports that are being released.
He stated that the people of the country are suffering under the burden of a high cost of living. Samarasinghe pointed out that even though the Government reduced a number of taxes, they took steps to increase the Port and Airport levy which inturn caused the prices of imported goods to increase. He added that if this does not change, the people will continue to be burdened.
Focusing on the people of Anuradhapura, Wasantha Samarasinghe noted that the farmers in the district would begin harvesting their crops soon and urges the President and the Government to issue a gazette mandating a fixed price of Rs 50 for paddy. Samarasinghe believes that if such a gazette is not issued the farmer in the area would be robbed of all their hard work.
