COLOMBO (News 1st); 3,500 Sri Lankan Muslims have been granted permission to undertake the Hajj pilgrimage this year, said Deputy Minister of National Integration, Munir Mullafer.
This agreement was recently signed between the Saudi Arabian government and Sri Lanka.
Starting from June, these pilgrims will have the opportunity to visit Mecca. The Deputy Minister assured that all necessary facilities will be provided to the pilgrims to ensure a smooth and fulfilling pilgrimage experience.
In addition, during the Ramadan fasting period, Saudi Arabia has generously donated 50 metric tons of dates to Sri Lanka for the consumption of Muslim devotees.
Deputy Minister Mullafer confirmed that this consignment has already arrived in the country and steps are being taken to distribute it to mosques across the island.
