Akila Viraj has no authority to request Speaker to make Ranil Wickremesinghe the opposition leader-Ajith P. Perera

COLOMBO (News 1st) - UNP MP Ajith P Perera speaking to media today (November 21) said UNP General Secretary has no authority to send a letter to the Speaker requesting Ranil Wickremesinghe to be appointed as the Opposition Leader and had submitted the letter without consulting the UNP Working Committee or the Parliamentary Group. MP added that a majority of the UNP MPs as well as Rauff Hakeem, Mano Ganeshan, Rishad Bathiudeen, P Digambaram maintain the stance of making Sajith Premadasa the Leader of the Opposition. The MP further added that a person who cannot command a majority of the Opposition in Parliament cannot be the Opposition Leader. He went on to note that Wimal Weerawansa, Dullas Alahapperuam, Nimal Siripala Silva and Mahinda Samarasinghe who call for Wickremesinghe to be made the Opposition Leader makes the play clear to all.
