Politicians diverted water away from Polpithigama : 15 villages protest

Colombo (News1st) - "Politicians, do not come to our village without providing us water from the Wayamba Ela " This is a banner put up in several villages in the Polpithigama Divisional Secretariat. The banner could be seen in around 15 villages in this manner, in areas that come under the Polpithigama Pradeshiya Sabha. The main reason for these villagers to be upset with the politicians is that fact that they have been unable to find the water that they require for cultivation as a result of political tug-o-war for over four years. The water can be released to the Siyambalangamuwa reservoir from Moragahakanda through the Wayamba Ela. This is in the master plan but it has been removed from the master plan. The villagers that live here have been struggling to obtain water for the past four years. The political authorities have taken steps to take this from 800 meters away and divert it to Galgamuwa. The politicians have stopped us from getting water. If the water is released 5000 families will use it. We are putting up banners and boycotting elections. Don't these banners depict the fact the people's patience has exceeded the tipping point?
