Colombo (News 1st): The water levels of the major Reservoirs of the Irrigation Department have reduced to 19% due to prevailing dry weather. The Department of Irrigation raised alarms as the water levels of the central reservoirs were dangerously low. Director Janaki Meegasthanne said waters levels at the Senanayake Samudraya was down to a shocking 3%. However she added, a special program has been formulated to provide water to minimize the damage to the agricultural lands. 625,770 people from 18 districts have been affected by the prevailing dry weather and over 200,000 of them are from the North. The Disaster Management Centre added that over 163,000 people in the East have been severely affected.
