COLOMBO (News 1st) - Presidential Commission appointed to look into irregularities in state institutions during the last 4 years, has decided to summon Minister Gamini Jayawickrama Perera and the former Minister Dr Sarath Amunugama as they held responsibilities at the Mahapola Trust fund to provide statements regarding the suspected fraud at the Mahapola Trust Fund from 2015-2018.
Meanwhile, former Chief Justice K. Sripavan, who was officially chairperson of the Mahapola Trust Fund during the period, has agreed to provide a written statement to the Presidential Commission. That was after the Commission attempted to obtain a statement from him on three occasions.
The investigations are being carried out on a complaint regarding several irregularities, including leasing a plot of land owned by the Mahapola Trust Fund from 2015-2018 to the Information Technology Institute in Malabe.
The complaints were lodged by former Minister Wijayadasa Rajapakse.
Meanwhile, Attorney Shehara Gunasekera, who prepared the agreement relating to the lease of land to the IT institute providing evidence at the hearing regarding these irregularities, said that the agreement was signed before the former President of the Mahapola Trust Fund, former Chief Justice K. Sripavan.
