Colombo (News 1st): The Department of Meteorology says that showery conditions will occur in several parts of the island this evening (July 12).
Sixty-five houses in Anuradhapura were damaged due to strong winds and heavy rainfall in the area. Several houses were damaged in the Thalgaswewa, Nikawewa and Kanugahawewa villages, due to strong winds last evening. News 1st correspondent in the area said strong winds hampered power supply in the area as well.
The Meteorological Department said that showers or thundershowers will occur in the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Western provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Fairly heavy rainfall of 75 mm is likely in some areas in the Sabaragamuwa province and in the Kalutara, Galle and Matara districts. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere after 2.00 p.m.
Fairly heavy falls above 50 mm are likely in some areas in the Uva and Eastern provinces and in the Polonnaruwa, Mullaitivu and Vavuniya districts.
