COLOMBO (News 1st): The Extraordinary Gazette notification banning the National Thawheed Jamaath, Jamathei Millath Ibrahim and the Vilayath As Seylani groups were passed in Parliament without a vote in parliament today (June 21). A debate on providing compensation to the victims of the04/21 attacks was also held today in parliament. The leader of the opposition, Mahinda Rajapaksa speaking on the matter said that the compensation process for the victims of the terror attacks has not been properly implemented even after two months. UPFA MP Nimal Lanza also speaking on the matter said that when he had inquired if the interim committee report prepared by the committee appointed by the President to look into the 04/21 attacks will be presented in parliament, he had said that the secretary to the President will be handing it over as soon as possible. He continued to say that however although it has been two months since the attacks that none of the acts, regulations or the report that was due to be brought to the parliament has been presented to date. The Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri responding to the opposition leaders question stated that they have not yet received any report on the attack. Responding to a clarification sought by the leader of the house Lakshman Kiriella on the acts and regulations required, MP Nimal Lanza said that there was a one country one law promised and that the acts regarding the Madrasa schools, clothes, laws regarding the Batticaloa campus and a number of other pending matters have not yet been brought up for discussion. He also continued to say that every member in the committee including the Muslim Ministers had agreed to this and said that the speaker had also stated that the report will be presented to the cabinet. The MP questioned whether this report will be submitted to the parliament in the same manner. Lakshman Kirella stated that the report will be presented when the cabinet approval is granted.
