Colombo (News 1st): The Pentagon announced that the US will send 1,000 additional US troops and more military resources to the Middle East amid tensions with Iran. The move comes following last weeks attacks on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman which strained relationships between the US and Iran. The US has blamed Iran for last week’s attacks on two tankers in the Gulf of Oman, a charge Tehran denies as “baseless”. The US argument centres on an unexploded limpet mine on the Kokuka Courageous tanker ship it says was removed by Iranians on a patrol boat. The operator of the Kokuka Courageous said the crew saw “flying objects” before an explosion, suggesting the ship was not damaged by mines. Acting Pentagon chief Patrick Shanahan said he authorized approximately additional troops for defensive purposes to address air, naval, and ground-based threats in the Middle East. Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Ali Larijani said US intervention creates problems for the Middle East region. Speaking regarding the matter an Executive Member of the National Organizations Collective Dr. Wasantha Bandara noted in the American Foreign policy there is a doctrine called disaster imperialism, which means you create a disaster or when there is a natural disaster you take that as an opportunity to intervene either by way of humanitarian aid or military support or whatever way the lead that they themselves interpret. He added that when they intervened in Iraq they pretended to be protecting the world from the mass destruction weapons that were being tested by Iraq and they created a picture that to protect the world community, they attacked Iraq. He said they used that opportunity to militarily invade Iraq, and in Libya, they created the problem they instigated the violence within the country and they used that opportunity to intervene. Dr Bandara stated that Syria who sends the IS in Iraq to Syria and then they are the ones who wanted to attack IS in Iraq in Syria and use that opportunity to demolish Syria. It is in this backdrop that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is visiting Sri Lanka next week.
"So when he comes the government is ready to sign or they have already signed 2 agreements. And the other one is being prepared to be signed most probably on the 27th when the state secretary comes to Sri Lanka; the government may sign that agreement as well." - Dr Wasantha Bandara
