COPE to inquire from 4 state institute heads regarding "Batticaloa University"

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The COPE committee has summoned heads of four state institutions to inquire into the Batticaloa university. The chairperson of the committee, Sandun Handunetti noted they are to appear at 2.30 pm today(May 21). The heads of the Ministry of the Higher Education, Ministry of Skills Development and Vocational Training, Board of Investment and the University Grants Commission are to appear before the COPE committee regarding this matter. The chairperson added that the committee would investigate to ascertain whether the alleged university is a university, a vocational training centre or some other type of institute. In addition, the investor, whether it was a private investment, government investment or a joint investment, how it was invested, ownership, is there a government intervention? And if it is what are the conditions, course content, how was the plot of land acquired are to be focussed in the inquiry.
