Court grants permission to detain and interrogate a Muslim labourer at Port Authority

Colombo (News 1st): Colombo Additional Magistrate Lochana Abeywickrama permitted the Colombo Harbour Police to detain and interrogate a Muslim person for a period of 30 days. He was serving as a labourer at the Sri Lanka Ports Authority. He is charged with influencing extremist activity and possessing CDs containing extremist propaganda. In addition, a cheque for Rs 1 million was seized from the possession of the suspect. Police said that over the past few months suspicious transactions of large amounts had taken place using his bank account.
