Colombo (News 1st): The National Security Council convened today under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat.
During the meeting, it was revealed that a large number of explosives and individuals who pose a threat to national security have been taken into custody.
The security council also decided to continue joint operations to eradicate the threat of terrorism.
A decision was also reached to postpone the date to reopen schools and universities to May 6th.
The council also decided to call on all parties to refrain from May day celebrations due to the current situation in the country.
According to the release issued by the presidential media unit, the council also decided to increase the security provided to state institutions, leading hotels and public locations.
