Damage assessment commences in Kirindiwela - DMC

Colombo (News 1st): The Disaster Management Center says that the damage assessment caused to the houses and buildings by the strong winds in the Kirindiwela area has commenced. Assistant Director of the Gampaha District DMC Ajith Nishantha said that 51 houses had been partly damaged due to strong winds and rain last evening. He added that two more houses were completely damaged. Among the damaged buildings is a temple in the area. Continuing he said that, temporary strong gusty winds up to 70-80 kmph are also possible during thundershowers. The department advises the public to be vigilant as trees and cables can break down due to strong winds. Disaster Management Centre states that they can be contacted on 117 or the Disaster Relief Officers in the area immediately.
