SI gets 4 years in prison for a Rs. 20,000 bribe

Colombo (News 1st): The Police Sub-Inspector who served as the OIC of the Andana police post in Kahawatte was found guilty by the Colombo High Court for soliciting a bribe of Rs. 20,000. The suspect was sentenced to 4 years in prison by the High Court. He was arrested on June 1st, 2011 by the Bribery Commission when receiving a sum of Rs. 20,000 as a bribe to refrain from filing legal action against a man arrested for the possession of illegal alcohol. The defendent was fined Rs. 10,000 as well as another Rs. 20,000 rupees as a penalty fee. .
