UPFA Presidential Candidate to be from SLPP

Colombo (News 1st): Speaking at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday (Feb 27) UPFA MP Kanaka Herath said that they have appointed the Chairman of the party Prof. G.L. Pieris, Dullas Allahapperuma and Senior Lecturer Jagath Wellawatte for discussions regarding a broad alliance. He requested everyone who is involved in this to create the alliance keeping the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna as the priority. When questioned if they are certain of having a presidential candidate from SLPP, he noted that the request from all parties in the joint opposition is to have a candidate from the Podujana Peramuna with the flower bud symbol. He said that the Podujana Peramuna will represent more than 51% of this alliance and the responsibility to select the candidate should be that of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.
