Traffic plan for So Sri Lanka IRONMAN 70.3 on Feb 24

COLOMBO (News 1st): So Sri Lanka IRONMAN 70.3 Colombo International Triathalon issued the road closure notice today (Feb 20). So Sri Lanka IRONMAN 70.3 Colombo will be held on Sunday, February 24th, 2019 with a 1.9km sea swim, 90km bike ride and a 21.2km run.

The event will see 745 athletes from 58 countries taking to the streets of Colombo. With the assistance of the Ministries of Tourism, Sports, Ports and Law & Order, and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB).

It was noted that during this event, there will be some level of interruption to local residents and businesses due to temporary road closures to be in place to ensure safety and security of the athletes during the biking and running legs of the event.

Following temporary road closures will be in place as follows; 

Sunday, 24th February 2019

Galle Face Green 

• 3 nos. seaside lanes along Galle Road from Old Parliament roundabout to Galle Face Hotel roundabout will be temporarily closed from 3.00 am to 1.00 pm. Landside lane will be made available to the public to access the hotels.
• Galle Face Roundabout will be fully cordoned off from 3.00 am to 1.00pm pm. However, Police will control limited vehicle movements to and from Galle Face Hotel.
• Galle Face Car Park will be closed for public from 3.00 am to 1.00 pm.
• Bus halt in front of the Old Parliament will be out of bound over the duration of the event from 3.00 am to 4.00 pm.

Chaitya Road

• Chaitya Road both direction will be closed from 3.00 am to 11.30 am on the 24th February 2019.
• There will be no parking along Chaitya Road from 3.00 am to 4.00 pm on the 24th February 2019.

• Janadhipathi Mawatha will be closed from 3.00 am to 11.15 am on the 24th February 2019.
• There will be no parking along Janadhipathi Mawatha from 3.00 am to 11.15 am on the 24th February 2019, Police will control limited vehicle movements.

Sir Baron Jayathilaka Mawatha

• Sir Baron Jayathilaka Mawatha both direction will be closed from 3.00 am to 11.15 am on the 24th February 2019.
• There will be no parking along Sir Baron Jayathilaka Mawatha from 3.00 am to 11.15 am on the 24th February 2019.

• York Street both direction will be closed from 3.00 am to 11.15 am on the 24th February 2019.
• There will be no parking along York Street from 3.00 am to 11.15 am on the 24th February 2019.

• BOC Mawatha both direction will be closed from 3.00 am to 11.15 am on the 24th February 2019.
• There will be no parking along BOC Mawatha from 3.00 am to 11.15 pm on the 24th February 2019.

• Both sides of Galle Road from Galle Face Hotel roundabout to the Kollupitiya Junction Marine Drive Turnoff will be temporarily closed on 24th February 2019 from 3.00 am to 1.00 pm.

• Both sides of Marine Drive from Kollupitiya to Dehiwela Bridge will be temporarily closed on 24th February 2019 from 3.00 am to 1.00 pm. Residents should use Galle Road during this period.
• On the 24th February 2019, the Bus stand at the Kollupitiya Railway station will be to Kollupitiya Market.
