Police bust 400,000 illegal cigarettes

Colombo (News1st) - The Police Anti Narcotics Bureau arrested a suspect along with a large haul of illegal cigarettes, as it was being transported in a container truck. According to Police media spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara, the haul of cigarettes is worth nearly Rs 20mn. A total of 400,000 cigarettes were discovered in the container and it was also revealed that the container in question had been smuggled into the country from Dubai under the guise of spare parts for naval vessels. Investigations have been launched to apprehend the mastermind behind the operation.
