Drug smuggling prison official interdicted

Colombo (News1st) - A Prison official, who was arrested yesterday attempting to smuggle Heroin into the Welikada Prison, has been interdicted. Prisons spokesperson Thushara Upuldeniya said a special investigation has been launched into the incident. A Prisons Sergeant was arrested last afternoon for attempting smuggle 20 grams of heroin into the Welikada Prison. The Ministry of Justice and Prison Reforms said the suspect was searched when he entered the premises as prison officials were suspicious about his conduct. Prison officials also found Rs. 85,000 in cash in the suspect's possession as well as two mobile phones.
