COLOMBO (News 1st) - Minister of Justice and Prison Reforms Thalatha Athukorale says that the responsibility of preparing the list of convicts who have received death penalties lies with the Attorney General's Department.
Co0mmenting on the documents regarding the drug smugglers, the Minister noted that of the 48 death row inmates that they had received from the Prisons Department, 38 had already appealed their sentences. She continued to say that details of the other 18 prisoners will be looked into and according to the decision made by the court that they will consider whether or not the death penalty should be passed on them.
The Minister added that everything depends on the reports submitted and added that the cases have already been opened.
